TRAVEL

My travel bucket list

Ever since I can remember I have travelled. I was lucky that both my parents, my Dad especially, liked to head off and explore new places every holiday. It has been a dream of mine to visit every country in the world before I die and by the age of 13 I have racked up an impressive tally of countries. When I was 19 I went on my big OE (overseas experience) and added another 9 to the list (this would have been 12 if I hadn’t broken my leg along the way!).

So what are the main things I still want to do – what is my bucket list? Well a lot. Some not out of the ordinary from most people, but some are a little off the wall for various random reasons. So in no particular order:

Antarctica – God knows why but I REALLY want to go here. Have seen so many amazing photos and would love to get some of my own.

Peru – Machu Picchu especially but would like to explore other places too

Madagascar – I loved lemurs growing up (especially the ring-tailed ones) so want to see them in the wild!

Bora Bora – If you’ve ever seen pictures of the beaches there you don’t need to ask why!

Jordan – I saw a picture of Petra when I was a child and have always wanted to go there.

Egypt – To see the pyramids and take a cruise down the Nile.

Italy – Venice, Rome, Pisa, Florence, Vatican City, – would love to see it all.

Ireland – Despite growing up in the UK, I never managed to get there.

Latvia – It’s where my Grandparents are from so would love to see it.

Copenhagen – To see the Little Mermaid amongst other things.

Amsterdam – Now that I am old enough to not get ropped into just hanging out the cafes all day! And a great place to cycle around too!

South Africa – Cape Town – and climb Table Mountain.

Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos – When I went travelling when I was 19, I was on my own and it was recommended at that point that I should not head into these places alone. Apparently this has changed a lot in the last decade though so would love to discover these countries – especially on a motorbike! I would LOVE to go to Ankor Wat.

Brazil – I would love to go to Rio for Carnival

Maldives to go scuba diving

Great Barrier Reef – to go scuba diving

Anywhere amazing to go scuba diving – suggestions welcome!

Panama Canal – I watched my brother go through the other day on the super yacht he works on and would love to do the same one day.

New Orleans – Would love to go when Mardi Gras is on.

Canada – Have lots of friends who come from here and have heard many good things about it so want to see it for myself.

Iceland/Greenland or anywhere I can see the Northern Lights from.

Russia – I love vodka – enough said.

Travel on the Orient Express – and do lots of the other great train journey’s like the Ghan in Australia. I used to play dress up with my great-grandmother when I was little and would pretend to be a princess on the Orient Express.

Go to North Korea. I lived in the South teaching English so would like to see the North too.

Go on safari in Africa – no idea where the best place is to do this though so open to suggestions.

Jerusalem, Israel – Possibly not the safest of places to head at times but I would like to see the wailing wall, Tower of David etc

Hanging gardens of Babylon, Iraq! Maybe one day I can go to where these were.

Timbuktu – Just because and would love to go on a camel safari!

South America in general – would love to discover most of this continent as it’s one I haven’t been to yet.

Live in France for a while to improve myh French speaking.

The list is continually being added to but those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

Enjoyed your list, some Id not thought about before (Timbuktu, Israel) but can see why you’d want to go. I think we should plan a SE Asia meetup! And of course, if you ever make it to my neck of the woods, we could go exploring! I’d like to return the favour some day =)
